Welcome to Eat Local Caledon

The Caledon and the Headwaters Region is the ideal place to focus on building a local food system and the Caledon Countryside Alliance (CCA) is increasing its efforts towards this mission via the Eat Local Caledon Program. Eating close to home not only strengthens the local food economy but also tops the list of environmentally sustainable actions. Raising awareness, engaging the public and building capacity to support a local food economy are the primary objectives of this initiative. Read more>>.

September was the 2nd Annual Eat Local Month in Caledon

In 2007 the CCA organized Caledon's first-ever Eat Local Week. In 2008 and 2009, we did it for a whole month! We helped celebrate, support and strengthen Caledon’s local food and farming system. People shopped at local farms, u-picks, wineries and farmers’ markets and many chose the local option at shops and restaurants.

During Eat Local Month there were a variety of special events taking place including: guest speakers, wine tastings, workshops, local dinner events and the 7-Day Eat Local Challenge. See the full event listing.

What is "Eating Locally"?

Eating locally means to eat food that is produced by local farmers or is processed locally by local food processors (e.g. bakeries, dairies, butchers, breweries, wineries). Read more>>.

Where Can I Buy Local Food?

Check out our listing of Local Farmers and Producers in the Caledon Area for information on where to find a full range of local foods including fruits, vegetables, meats, breads, honey and more.

From June to October you can also shop at the Inglewood Farmers’ Market on Wednesday evenings (opened June 2008) or the new Caledon Farmers’ Market in Bolton (opened June 2009) on Thursday evenings.

Take a Bite Out of Climate Change

Take the Local Food Pledge today and commit to a climate friendly diet year round. Eight easy guidelines will help you to pledge to make food choices that reduce food miles and greenhouse gas emissions. The guidelines are: Eat with the Seasons, Shop Local, Cook Fresh, Eat More Plants, Grow Your Own, Savour the Harvest, Choose Local Alternatives and Avoid Food Waste.
